What GamerDad says about the ESRB Content Descriptors:
Comic Mischief: Plankton gets to rampage all over Bikini Bottom! SpongeBob Squarepants SpongeBob Squarepants is one of those rare characters that appeals to kids and adults alike with a combination of silliness and wry wit and cultural references. However, video games based on the franchise have typically been fairly shallow action-platformers that appealed only to younger fans of the sponge ヨ and typically not very good. Creature from the Krusty Krab has some interesting gameplay elements, but the choice of using the stylus alone for all input and control makes the game unnecessarily frustrating. Movement and platforming using a ムtwo-swipe' system to move and jump results in lots of cheap death traps, and the controls are sporadically unresponsive. The few mini-games like shooting giant Plankton with cannon are fun, but it is far too little to make up for the otherwise repetitive and annoying gameplay. Had they stuck with the D-pad for movement the fun would have had a chance to shine through, but as it stands it is an experience that should be avoided by all but the most die-hard SpongeBob fans. ![]()
SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab plays like a small section of the cartoon series. The story is pretty simple ヨ you are living out the dreams of SpongeBob, Patrick and Plankton. The content is all very harmless and silly ヨ there are no ムlessons learned', no puzzling moments or insightful remarks. There is nothing but action with small scenes in between, and even those are innocuous. My biggest concern with this game is that younger kids will get frustrated with the lack of responsiveness and scratch up their DS touch screen.
Which version to buy? DS: Reviewed above ヨ the worst version. GBA: by making it a simple 2D adventure, it is better than the DS version ヨ and the best version overall. PS2, GameCube & PC: full 3D can't save this from being bland and lifeless. Comments? Chat about it in our forums!
