The ESRB says...
Blood: The opening scene shows your father getting killed in a bloody massacre. Intense Violence: After that opening scene, the violence is unrelenting. Sexual Themes: When Frankie turns and says over her shoulder "no we shouldn't ... but we will" you know it is just the beginning. Strong Language: Not quite Scarface, but all the four letter words are used. How ironic is it that a game based on the classic Godfather movies would have a terrible camera framing the action? The game is cinematic, with movie clips associated with every mission, weaving the plot heavily through the game. Unfortunately nothing in the game ever lives up to the quality of the source material or the tension built through the film clips. It's a good game that constantly seems like it's not living up to its potential. Third-person action is the focus with added strategy in the Mob Wars. This strategy addition makes up for the loss of the driving and free-roaming portions of the home console versions of The Godfather. Missions generally consist of extortion, elimination or fighting your way out of a tough spot. Mob Wars revolves around hiring mobsters and training them to take over areas to help you become the Don of New York City. The idea is good but the execution is rough, with you directing others as kingpin one moment and acting as lackey the next. Controls are problematic and frustrating, but the action is generally easy enough that you can make it through despite the bad camera. There is Godfather love oozing out every pore of the game. If you love the movies you'll enjoy the game. Even if you don't care much about the films the game provides a decent amount of entertainment, but probably not enough to make it a keeper. ![]()
The Godfather: Mob Wars is more brutal than the films it's based on. Violence is extreme and consistentラyou are strong-arming small-time store owners to pay up, and tearing apart their shops if they don't show enough respect. You are rewarded with extra respect for killing opponents with your hands, and have special execution moves and animations.
Strong language and implied sexuality rounds out the hard R-rated content. The language is closer to Scarface than the original The Godfather with nearly every non-interactive scene M-rated. Sexual themes are relatively tame, and certainly less than what is present in many PG-13 movies, but this is definitely a mature game aimed squarely at adults, not children of any age.
