The ESRB says:
Cartoon Violence: GamerDad made Jake Long kick and punch trolls and other monsters in both human and dragon forms. Jake Long: American Dragon is a cartoon series on the Disney Channel on cable TV. Trolls and monsters sent by the Dark Dragon are terrorizing New York City, and only teen Jake Long can stop them. Jake Long has the ability to turn into a powerful dragon, and now you can help him beat the bad guys on the Nintendo DS. As Jake Long, players kick and punch droves of monsters in a variety of stages. When Jake collects enough focus crystals, he can change into a dragon for a limited time with a simple tap on the touch screen. In dragon form, Jake breathes fire projectiles to stave off foes. Tap on the touch screen to activate one of Dragon Jake's special abilities, like hovering, shields, or a giant blast of flames. Sometimes Dragon Jake takes to the skies for a 3-D dogfight arena with aerial enemies. The 3-D graphics are colorful and basic like the cartoon show. Play control is decent but it is pretty difficult for a kid's game. Only huge American Dragon fans will dig this game. ![]()
Jake Long punches, kicks, and unleashes dragon attacks on monsters, but the violence is only cartoony. Kids who are OK with the TV show will be OK with the game. Reading skill is helpful to understand what people are saying via text. Fans will enjoy American Dragon,on the DS, but they may get frustrated because of the high difficulty.
Which Version to Buy? DS: The version reviewed here. GBA: While this version has a different subtitle and 2-D graphics (which look better than the 3-D DS graphics, by the way), it's essentially the same kind of game. Kick and punch monsters, turn into a dragon, etc. But the GBA version is much harder, too. I had trouble getting past the first stage! Comments? Chat about it in our forums!
