What GamerDad says about the ESRB Content Descriptors:
Fantasy Violence: Arthur battles loads of crazy monsters. Animated Blood: the enemies you battle have stuff that comes out of them, such as the bleeding eye-stalks. The console classic Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins gets renamed and updated for the PSP, and has one thing removed ヨ the impossible difficulty. Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins is still the same game that carries the mark of legendary difficulty; the same insanely frustrating combination of pitched battles and cheap deaths; the same gloriously designed game in which Arthur (i.e. you) sets out to rescue a princess and finds nothing but trouble along the way. Aside from doing a solid job of updating the graphics and sound, the developers worked hard to make the game more accessible to all gamers. To do this they have created one of the best difficulty schemes I've ever seen ヨ at the lowest level, you can resume from where you died and get special meta-magical feats that help you along; the harder difficulty removes these bonuses, and the hardest difficulty should just say ムdon't bother, you barely made it through normal difficulty'! The experience is still very difficult and frustrating, even on ムEasy', but it is a rewarding and fun experience that allows a whole new generation of gamers to experience a true classic ヨ and lets more than a handful actually finish! ![]()
Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins plays like the old console platform game that it is ヨ there are constant battles in which your enemies are destroyed and have something resembling blood come out of them. It is by no means gory, and not overly violent. This is a two dimensional platform game in a comic-fantasy setting. Some of the monsters are a bit on the scary side, and there was one thing in particular that bothered on of my kids ヨ the way that Arthur turns to a skeleton when he dies. The biggest issues that make the game for older kids are the frustrating difficulty and the constantly tense action. You are constantly battling, and yet you'll still constantly die ヨ your patience will be tested as much as your skills. But if you are up for the challenge this is a very fun experience for kids and adults alike.
