ESRB Content Descriptors Say:
The ESRB has no descriptors for this game, rated E for everyone. GamerDad has examined it and has found no objectionable material present. In Camp Lazlo: Leaky Lake Games, players get to take on the role of Lazlo and his friends and try to impress the scoutmaster to be allowed to represent Camp Lazlo in the Leaky Lake Games. The game consists of many, many (did I say many?) fetch and carry quests for the denizens of the camp which then unlock a minigame which must be beaten before continuing on with the plot. These minigames are simple subgames that use only a few buttons for control. Most minigames in Camp Lazlo fall into two categories: races of various types and button pattern matching (like pressing up, down, down, up when that pattern is displayed on the screen). There are fifteen minigames when the final three Leaky Lake Games competitions are included. Once these are completed, the main game is over, but players can always try to improve their score on any mingame previously unlocked. Wandering the camp to gather items is very easy, as a handy compass is always present in the lower right hand of the screen and points directly to the person or item you are required to find. This is a huge help as wandering aimlessly for the many lost items would otherwise be unbearable. As the game stands, it is on the short side, playable in about three hours. Unfortunately, at least half of that time is spent looking for item A, finding out person 1 has the item and will only give it to you if you find four sets of item B, and so on... The fifteen minigames in the game are simple and fun, but due to the interspersed fetch and carry missions the game never seems to gain forward momentum. Dropping half of the missions and adding a few minigames instead would have greatly improved the title. All the minigames keep track of some sort of score, so the game's life is slightly extended by going back to retry any of the unlocked minigames. ![]() Fans of the Camp Lazlo series will welcome the inclusion of all of the show's more popular characters and the chance to interact with them. Due to the simple controls and helpful compass, Leaky Lake Games is a reasonable title for young gamers. A few of the minigames might be a tad challenging for a younger gamer, but failure has no penalty. Players can try again as many times as necessary. Older gamers, say 10 or above, will probably find the title too simple, too short, and too repetitive.
This title works reasonably well for younger gamers, as the compass makes the fetch and carry missions are trivial to complete. Conversations are text-based so reading skills are helpful to follow the story, but are not needed to actually accomplish the missions. A non-reader will be able to find items, but they won't know exactly what item is until it appears on the screen. In contrast to the extremely easy fetch and carry missions, A few of the minigames can be difficult, perhaps requiring an older player to help get past the trickier ones.
