Sports games just can't be about the simplicity of the game anymore or they don't stand out. NBA 07: The Life Vol. 2 throws you its changeup by putting you in the shoes of The Kid or Big W as their rivalry swirls through a season in the NBA. This career is a nice way for the game to put you in different basketball situations, both one-on-one or in full five-on-five contests where there are certain goals to exceed beyond just winning the game. It's not a bad way to learn the game but your tolerance for over-dramatic cinemas will be put to the test regularly, not to mention your patience waiting for the game to load.
If you play the game solely as a simulation of the NBA, it's a little less unique, but reasonably approachable. The controls are solid, but there are too many times when players easily drive the lane and slip right past what you think is good defense. It's an offensive show that is entertaining in short sittings, but doesn't play with enough depth to keep you coming back. Basketball is such a difficult sport to replicate in a videogame, and this one seems to be going through the motions of putting roundball on the TV screen but not a whole lot else.

The rivalry between Big W and The Kid is played out in cinemas between dribbling, shooting and defending and kids might enjoy it more than adults. There's a little bit of the urban image the NBA projects, but that's balanced by a relative lack of the thuggery that some people associate with the game.
The biggest problem for kids will be waiting through the sometimes interminable periods of loading from disc. It gets really annoying during the story game and drags down whatever drama the designers were trying to build up there. The controls are good, but they take a good while to adapt to, too. That's another potential turn-off for those not committed to learning the game and acquiring the skills needed to succeed at it.
