The ESRB Says:
Cartoon Violence: GamerDad blasted and slashed mostly cartoony robots that always came back for more. Far into the future, 100 years past the events of the Mega Man Zero GBA games, humans and robot reploids can finally live in peace--thanks to technology that makes humans and reploids practically indistinguishable. In this game, play as either Vent (male) or Aile (female). Both had their family taken away from them by evil reploids when they were children, and now they work for a transport service. One day, they get assigned to deliver a top secret package that turns out to be special biometal armor that people can equip to themselves to make them as powerful as ancient reploid heroes Mega Man X and Zero. But sinister forces try and steal the special biometal, so Vent and Aile must don the robotic armor themselves to fight back the evil reploids out for world domination. Mega Man ZX on the Nintendo DS plays a lot like the Mega Man X and Zero games. Tromp through 2-D sidescrolling areas as you blast and slash robots with long range guns and short range swords. Defeat tricky bosses and claim their biometals for you own. New biometals will give you new and different weapons and special abilities. New to the Mega Man series in ZX is each area is interconnected, and you explore them all in a more adventure game fashion. Backtrack to old areas with new biometals and abilities to snag rare and helpful items, and take on side quests to earn extra money and other goodies as well. The only problem with this sprawling level design is that the in-game map isn't very useful at all and it's difficult sometimes to tell where you need to be going. ZX's graphics are bright and cartoony and look like a Japanese manga comic book come to life. As expected in any Mega Man title, the music is driving, upbeat, and catchy. Play control is super-responsive, but then again, it needs to be since the game is pretty difficult. The DS bottom touch screen is rarely used for anything other than a place to put your inventory and map. If you like the Mega Man series and action packed games in general, you might want to leap into the future with Mega Man ZX. ![]()
Kids who love to watch Japanese anime cartoon shows will love the look and feel of Mega Man ZX. Violence is only cartoony as you destroy only robots with blaster guns and laser swords. When anyone dies, they just disappear into nothing. Reading skill is helpful as story progression and character dialog is all text based. Even though there are selectable difficulty levels for gamers of all skill levels, and the game is pretty safe for anyone to play, Mega Man ZX is best for older kid gamers as it's still a pretty tough game with tricky jumps, obstacles, and boss enemies to fight. But with dozens and dozens of games in the Mega Man series, it's pretty clear that kids like Mega Man.
