Mild Fantasy Violence:GamerDad made a spaceship shoot down rockets and UFOs made out of clay..

One of the most pure and simple video game play experiences is also one of the first. The 2-D shooter, beginning with classics like Space Invaders and Defender, still lives on today. Now you can enjoy that kind of fun again with Platypus, a new side-scrolling 2-D shooter for your PlayStation Portable.

Pilot your yellow spacecraft as you blast away waves of enemy UFOs and rocket ships. Collect power ups to increase your firepower, and snag fruit for bonus points. And that's about it.

The unique ムgimmick' with Platypus is that all the graphics are clay animated, giving the visuals a cartoony 3-D look. Even the rockets that you shoot look like the one Wallace and Gromit piloted in their clay adventures. Only problem with the colorful graphics is that the small red projectile bullets you must avoid are hard to see. There is music in the game, but you won't hear much of it because of the loud ムpew pew pew' of your laser blasts.

Platypus is easy to pick up and play, but as most shooters go, it's a pretty tough challenge even on the easiest difficulty selection. While Platypus does what it sets out to do and that's it, there are far better 2-D shooters out there, even on the PSP.

Violence is only minimal, as you only shoot down clay UFOs and rockets. And reading isn't required to play either. But even on the easiest difficulty setting, kids may have a tough time staying alive in the game and might get bored with the repetitive gameplay.
