The ESRB Warns:
Language: GamerDad found simple cursing "Hell", "Dammit", etc., Nothing saltier than that. Mild Suggestive Themes: Sweethearts at home are talked about in the way soliders tend to talk about sweethearts at home. Use of Alcohol:Soldiers are shown drinking in the cutscenes and it's talked about mostly in passing. Violence:Do you think these planes and boats turn into rose petals? Nope, they go down in flames. Occasional screams are heard over the radio. Take command over boats, submarines and fighter planes in "Battlestations: Midway," a polished and highly enjoyable World War II-themed action/simulation game for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC. The game begins with the attack on Pearl Harbor. You play as Henry Walker, a gunner on a PT boat who must stay alive through this Japanese assault, but then must soar over the Pacific as a pilot to take down enemy aircraft and their carriers. An hour later, you're manning a submarine using torpedoes to sink opponent ships. In total, the game offers 60 historically accurate warships, planes and submarines. These intense battles in the skies and in or under the water continue though the Philippines and other parts of Asia Pacific and climaxes at the epic Battle of Midway. While the game begins as more of an arcade game by aiming crosshairs, firing upon enemies and adjusting the speed and direction of your plane or boat, soon players will be able to play a more strategic game which includes issuing offensive or defensive orders while viewing an overhead map of the situation, cycling through objectives and choosing to repair damaged watercraft (except PT boats). The main U.S. campaign mode includes 11 lengthy missions and 12 bonus missions. Other modes include Naval Academy (11 tutorial missions); Ship Challenge (increasingly challenging watercraft missions); Plane Challenge (dog-fighting missions); Submarine Challenge (hunt transports and evade destroyers); and an online head-to-head or co-operative moves playable over the Xbox Live service ($50 a year). Despite some minor problems, such as lengthy load times between some missions, "Battlestations: Midway" is a worthy war game with plenty of gripping game-play. ![]()
It's a WWII simulation and the vehicles, situations, and tactics are based on WWII history οΎ– and kids will learn a bit from it just because of that. But the game isn; a simulation. It's an action game. So they won't learn much history from it, but might be inspired to do some reading about Midway, or maybe see the classic film. The games aren't gory at all, but there are explosions and it's clear your opponents die when riddled with your bullets. Girls are talked about and there's some references to alcohol and basic crude language.
Platforms Available For: Xbox, PS2: Very similar. Xbox is slightly better looking. Xbox360, PC: Great looking! The PC version allows for different controllers, while Xbox360 version is much more stable and over Live, features far more players to battle against. On the other hand, the 360 version is a good $20 more than the other versions at the time of this writing. Kid Factor by Andrew Bub This review edited by Andrew Bub Comments?
