Trion Cube is a Nintendo DS puzzler similar to falling block games like Tetris. In Trion Cube, flip and arrange falling blocks of three pieces into the bottom of a well. When you make a 3 by 3 square with the blocks, they change color for a limited time. If you continue to make 3 by 3 squares while the blocks are in this state, you boost your combo count and your score as well. When you can't make any more chain combos, the blocks you changed turn into coins. Your score is represented by distance traveled. As you make 3 by 3 chain combos, a little spaceship goes faster and faster as your distance is measured. It's Game Over if your well fills up with blocks or you run out of time. And that's all there really is to it. Trion Cube is easier to learn just by playing it rather than reading about it.
Play a quick game in Arcade Mode, take on various challenges in Story Mode, or go marathon in Endless Mode. Challenge another nearby DS owner in VS. Mode with single cartridge wireless play. The more you play, the more goodies you unlock. Buy sound effects and graphic ムskins' to customize your puzzler experience with the coins you earn from combos. Graphics are simple but do the job. Unfortunately, music is repetitive and most will end up just playing with the volume off. Trion Cube is a simple puzzler that doesn't really use the special capabilities of the DS, but at only 20 bucks suggested retail price, it's a good deal for such an addictive and easy to understand game. If you like Tetris puzzlers, you'll like Trion Cube. ![]()
Absolutely no violence whatsoever, just abstract shape matching. No reading ability is required. Just as long your kids have adequate shape recognition and matching skills, they can play Trion Cube. The game is also light on difficulty so even young players can feel a sense of accomplishment.
There are a couple of bits of quirky humor that some parents might be bothered by. While the characters in the story mode are rather superfluous, the ending shows asteroids pelting the planet Earth for some reason. One of your rivals in the story mode is named Hellmetal. And one of the sound effects you can unlock is farting noises. But that's all. Trion Cube is still a fantastic budget puzzle game for all ages. Comments? Chat about it in our forums!
