The ESRB Found:
Fantasy Violence: GamerDad found shooting galleries. Oh, and robots in a first-person shooter mode. Not very graphic at all. Mild Lyrics: I don't know the names of the songs, but these are pop tunes. Pop tunes are always about... well... you know. Suggestive Themes: Flirting and cheesy pick-up lines are part of the game. Not offensive, but maybe innappropriate for younger kids. Step right up, if you dare! "Thrillville" brings the sights, sounds, and non-stop action of a theme park to your living room by putting your child in charge of the fun! All that's missing is the smell of popcorn and cotton candy! Up until now "amusement park simulation" meant the "Theme Park" or "Roller Coaster Tycoon" series (the latter is available on the PC and highly recommended for families) and "Thrillville" looks like more of the same. It isn't. "Thrillville" is a fresh take on the concept that leaves Tycoon's business and economic aspects out of the mix and concentrates; instead, on the reason people really love theme parks. The sights, the midway games, the sounds, the people, and of course, the rides! Seems your Uncle Mortimer, owner of no less than five amusement parks, needs some help running them and to help him out, players have to visit each park and keeping guests happy and challenged by playing a bunch of minigames. There are twenty of them in all, and they range from target shooting to performing tricks while jumping on a trampoline. There's also a game where you have to build rides and, it's easy! My 7-year old could do it, and boy did she have a great time riding the rides she built οΎ– a wonderful feature. Another great idea is P-ARK, a radio station that plays to-40 tunes as you visit each park and one drawback is the lack of a "sandbox" mode. A game like this really inspires creativity, and it's a pity to see that limited. ![]()
The game isn't violent, despite the shooting gallery, but there is a social aspect to the game. Part of the game is making park patrons fall in love, and to do it players have to choose cheesy pick-up lines. There's nothing really offensive, but that's how the game got its E-10 rating.
Other Platforms PSP: Same as PS2 Xbox: Same as PS2, graphics are slightly better, 4-player is easier to use given that the Xbox has four controller ports. PS2: Same as Xbox, only 4-player requires a Multi-tap (check your local store, it lets you plug two more gamepads into one of the PS2's controller ports). Comments? Chat about it in our forums!
