At least this game is better than the movie.

Reviewed for Wii.

Fantasy Violence: GamerDad made a space chicken, duck, and pig shoot laser guns and missiles at sci-fi robots and aliens.

At the end of Disney's computer animated film Chicken Little, the heroic endeavors of Chicken Little and his farm friends were depictedラrather inaccuratelyラin a Star Trek spoof movie. Now you can relive the antics of Chicken Little's sci-fi alter egos in Chicken Little: Ace in Action.

Ace in Action is a 3-D sci-fi shooter blast-a-thon. Ace the chicken captain (voiced by Adam West) goes on ground missions, hovering over danger with his jetpack and blasting robots with his laser gun. Abby the no-so-ugly duckling pilots a hovership and Runt the battle pig drives a tank.

Each character controls relatively similar. With the Wii remote, aim the cursor on the TV screen to blast the aliens and robots to pieces, while running and jumping around using the nunchuck controller and buttons. Control works fine until you're surrounded by enemies, as trying to aim and shoot gets a little more difficult then. But it's still a better and more fun control scheme than the other console versions of the game. Graphics are about as good as the computer animated movie this is based on. But only die-hard fans of the Disney characters will really get into Chicken Little: Ace in Action.

Reading skill is helpful, but not always required, as most times characters have spoken voice. Even though players shoot down robots and aliens with guns, nobody gets hurt or dies because players are ムwarped out' before anything bad happens to them. Sometimes the frantic action may be a bit difficult for younger games, but luckily checkpoints are plenty, energy refills are around every corner, and you can retry limitlessly.

Which Version to Buy?
Wii: The version reviewed here. Not great, but not bad either.
PS2: Pretty much the same as the Wii version except you aim with the right analog stick, not the Wii remote.
DS: While this version has 3-D graphics, it's more of a top-down viewed 2-D arcade action shooter with multi-directional gameplay. And it's also pretty difficult for a kid's game.
