Cartoon Violence: GamerDad made cartoon characters punch and kick each other, a well as clobber them with spiked clubs, axes, and crazy projectile gun weapons. But no blood or gore.
Crude Humor: Fart and snot potty humor around every corner.

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is a popular animated TV show on cable channel Cartoon Network. Dark and stoic Mandy and her brainless and annoying friend Billy are two kids who bump into the Grim Reaper one day. The demented children manage to trick Grim into being their friend forever, and now the three go on all sorts of supernatural adventures with plenty of fart and booger jokes along the way. Now you can experience all the antics of the cartoon with The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy on the Nintendo Wii.

Grim's video game debut is a four player beat ムem up fighting game. Play as Grim, Billy, Mandy, and a host of other characters from the show. Fight each other in devilish 3-D arenas like Billy's backyard, wizard Toadblatt's office, or the depths of the underworld. Stages will constantly change on the fly, so be on your toes. Punch and kick your foes, and pick up items that randomly appear in the arena to give you a boost in battle. Melee weapons like spiky clubs, axes, and swords, or projectile gun weapons that shoot slime, lasers, flames, or chicken eggs. Collect purple spheres called Mojo Balls and unleash special supernatural attacks. Up to four players can battle it out against each other. Unlock secret characters and outfits by completing missions.

Graphics are colorful and chaotic, so much so that it can become hard to tell where your character is and what's going on sometimes. They use actual voices and music from the cartoon, too, so it feels very authentic. Play control is a little tricky to figure out at first, especially with the Wii remote buttons, but after a few battles it becomes easier. Plus you always have the option to control the action with GameCube controllers, too, if you like. With selectable difficulty levels, players of all gaming skills can enjoy The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Fans of the cartoon and fighting games will like this title.

Click to learn more about GamerDad's Kid Factor review section. It's a fighting game, so there is violence. But it's only the cartoony kind of violence. No blood or gore, just cartoon kids and monsters hitting and shooting each other. The game is full of fart and booger jokes, and other potty humor gross out gags that older kids tend to like. If you are OK with your kids watching The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy cartoon show, they'll be OK with this game, too. Reading skill is helpful but not required, and the different difficulty selections mean that kids of all ages can enjoy playing. Some families may be uncomfortable with some of the subject matter, as the game has plenty of references to demons, the Grim Reaper himself, and underworld locations that resemble Hell.

Me personally, I can't stand The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy cartoon show. The writers tend to rely on ムwhat can we get away with on a cable channel kids show' rather than clever writing and stories. However, even though I hate the show, I can understand what makes the video game good. So if a Grim hater like me can enjoy the game, imagine how much a Billy and Mandy fan would like it.

Which Version to Buy?
Wii: The version reviewed here.
PS2: Same as the Wii version except with traditional gamepad controls.
GameCube: Ditto
GBA: Not exactly sure if this is a fighting game like the other versions, but it certainly isn't 3-D.
