So how do you want your baseball game? Just jump into action pitting the Red Sox against the Yankees? Take a team through a season and see if you can take the Cubs to the World Series? Fiddle around in a quick home-run derby? Play manager and see how your back-seat driving guides your team through the year? Just focus on taking one player through year after year; from no-name rookie to hall Hall of Fame shoo-in? MLB 07: The Show gives you all of that and more. The follow-on to the surprisingly good new entry to the baseball game genre is mostly about tweaks and refinements, but those combined with the superstar mode called 'Road to the Show' result in another solid entry that suddenly makes Sony the name of the game in video game baseball.
Everything about this game is deep and rich with content - there are tons of options to customize how the game plays based on new features or classic content, and the number of ways to play through baseball games and seasons is staggering. There are two different player-focused career modes, the traditional 'career mode' and the new 'Road to the Show', which truly focuses on a single player. You create a player and then earn training points to advance their skills by successfully meeting goals the game poses to you. The difference between this mode and normal Career mode is that you only see the parts of the game where your player sees action - so if you are a first baseman you might only see three at-bats and two fielding plays during a game. This lets you advance further in your career in much less time, which is a more exciting way to see your player develop through the years - let your pitcher become the greatest fast-baller in history, or your home-run king set new records. If you want the details of every game, play in Season mode or go through the normal Career mode and you can get involved in every play. The bottom line is that whatever your taste in video game baseball, MLB 07: The Show has something for you - and it is something that is done well and will be enjoyable to play.  
Baseball is a great all around game, and at this time of the year many kids are playing in their town leagues and cheering on their favorite teams. This game is a great companion to those activities, as several of the game modes really make you think about what strengths and weaknesses each player has and how to set up the best possible team in order to win as many games as possible. Even though there is a full career mode, nothing else has been added that includes any questionable content (such as is seen in some NBA-themed games). If you love baseball (and can stand the load times on the PSP) this is one of the best baseball games yet, and certainly the best handheld baseball game to date!
Other Platforms: PS3: Absolutely gorgeous, otherwise identical to the PS2 version. PS2: Solid game, looks and plays great. PSP: Identical to the PS2 version, but with VERY long load times. Be wary!
