For more than ten years, the bubbly puzzler Bust-A-Move has floated to nearly every new game console out there, and now it's popping up on the Nintendo Wii. Multicolored bubbles are on the top of a well, and you must tilt an arrow and fire single bubbles from the bottom of the screen to the cluster above. Match three of the same color bubble and they'll pop. Make all the bubbles disappear to win the round, but if the top bubbles reach the bottom of the screen, it's game over. Skillful players aim the bubbles to bounce off the walls at angles to get to bubbles in hard to reach places.
![]() The main gameplay of Bust-A-Move Bash on the Nintendo Wii remains unchanged, except for the controls. Using the motion sensoring Wii remote, aim and fire bubbles in one of three ways. Hold the remote like a baton and tilt it left and right to move the bubble-shooting arrow on screen. Or point the remote at the TV to guide the bubble shooterラwith or without an on screen cursor--to help you (which is easier play control-wise). But each mode of control is still simple and responsive and provides a fun new way to play the familiar bubble popping game. In Puzzle Mode, tackle hundreds of stages with pre-set bubble arrangements and clear out all the bubbles before they hit the bottom of the screen. In Endless Mode, the cluster of bubbles at the top continuously moves downward, and you must try and survive as long as you can. Shooting Mode is a mere distraction where you just aim the remote to pop moving bubbles like a shooting gallery. But what puts the ムBash' in Bust-A-Move Bash is the multiplayer mode, where up to 8 players can pop bubbles on one screen at the same time. It can get a little chaotic but it's still an interesting diversion at parties. ![]() While Bust-A-Move Bash is a cheerful and addictive puzzler, it's really not that much different than the many Bust-A-Move games before it. And the suggested retail price of 40 dollars is a bit steep for a game that looks like it could've been part of the Wii's Virtual Console download service. But if you've never owned a Bust-A-Move game, or if you can wait for a price drop, Bust-A-Move Bash is a great Wii family puzzler.
No violence of any kind, and reading skill isn't required to play either. Young gamers will need a steady hand to aim and fire bubbles with the Wii remote control, though. It's a stretch, but Bust-A-Move Bash could almost be considered educational since you have to match up colors to win. Because of its inviting nature and large multiplayer mode, Bust-A-Move Bash makes for a great family puzzle game. Heck, even my mom is a huge fan of the series.
