The ESRB Says
Mild Fantasy Violence: GamerDad had to battle his way through level after level of many dungeons against all manner of monsters. Mild Language: Izuna is a foul-mouthed brat, but fortunately the game limited her to mostly saying thing like 'aw crap', with occasional use of words like 'hell' and 'damn'. Mild Suggestive Themes: Izuna considers herself a 'real hottie' and is very flirtatious in several situations. Quick quiz - you are on level 20 of a 21 level dungeon. You have spent hours (including several deaths) making it down here and the stairs down to the final boss of the dungeon are in sight. Then you step on a trap that spawns several monsters around you and after using several items are killed. You wake up in the inn with all of your money and items gone. Do you (a) cry, (b) go right back at the dungeon again, or (c) curse your decision to ever buy this game. If you answered (b) then you need to go buy this game ... NOW! Izuna is a classic roguelike wrapped up in anime trappings. You come to a town and Izuna makes a mess of things, and you spend dozens of hours trudging through dungeons trying to set them right. The game is punishingly difficult and unforgiving as the difficulty ramps with each new dungeon. There is a talisman system that allows you to use items as spells, temporary weapon enhancements or permanent enhancements, but it is more difficult to use than it is rewarding. That quibble aside, the game is surprisingly good, but is definitely not for everyone - you need to enjoy abusively hard (but rewarding) games. If you do, if you really desire an updated dungeon crawler that will leave you wanting more, Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja is a great choice. ![]()
Izuna is a sassy, crass, bratty, brash little vixen. She mouths off to everyone she meets and always has a smart answer. But you only ever see this when you are in town or meeting up with a boss - which comprises about 0.01% of the game. Most of the time you will be looking top down on her exploring the vast dungeons, where battles are simple and not particularly violent. I would have given this a 6+ GamerDad Seal except that I disagree with the 'Mild Fantasy Violence' - the difficulty and frequency of perilous battles makes it anything but mild!
