This includes my own 7-year old daughter Maggie, a fact I quickly learned when I put "Lucinda Green's Equestrian Challenge" into my PlayStation 2 (a PC version is also available). Since 99.9% of all the deserving and well behaved little girls (and boys) out there will never get a chance to play with actual horses, and since video gaming is, in large part, all about doing what you can't do in real life, why not saddle up and get your prance on?

The good news is that the game is budget priced (at the time of this writing it can be found for around $20) and well made. Plus champion equestrian Lucinda Green seems to have lent more than just her voice to the game, there's a feeling of quality here. From the way the horses move and sound to the gentle animation. A good golf game, through a combination of sound and gentle animations, can make you feel like you're on the links. Lucinda's game has this quality; a peaceful feeling of being out in the field on a pretty day, with real horses.

Kids can pick out a horse, train and groom it, name and decorate it, and eventually take it from challenge to challenge competing in all kinds of equestrian events like prancing and jumping over gates. Three complete "Grand Slam" events are offered (these are the official competitions), the names and likenesses of real rides, multiple difficulty levels ensure that the challenge rarely frustrate. It all comes together into a value that's almost as majestic as the animals it lets you ride.

A lot of time is spent in the game teaching kids about horses, how to care for them, and how to train them in a way that's compassionate and respectful. It's also a terrific way to let your son or daughter play with the horses they love, while saving your budget.
