Sony brings the classic PSx rhythm game to the PSP with extras ... but the great fun is over before you know it!

Reviewed for PSP.

Before the age of DDR and Guitar Hero with their special controllers there was a story of a rapping dog in love with a flower who needed to best opponents including a moose, chicken and frog in order to win her affections. With a unique visual style and extremely simple gameplay you are off - matching moves and bouncing to the infectious rhythms as you work through the game. It is amazingly fun and very straightforward - everything about it is a blast.

But then in about an hour you are done. There are six short challenges that only last several minutes apiece. You can replay each of the challenges in a freestyle mode and add your own stuff to your presentations which is fun, but you will still wring all of the gameplay out of this in only a few hours. There is ad-hoc multiplayer available and some remixes of the original soundtracks comprise the downloadable material - but neither of these do very much to extend the value. If you have a PSP and are looking for a cool rhythm game this is fun but a lousy value - it is still infectious to play but cannot hold up against something like Elite Beat Agents on the DS.

This game is great fun and appropriate for anyone able to manage the PSP controls, and even those are simplified to the point that they are pretty easy for anyone with hands big enough to hold the system. This is one of those fun little games to get and share with the kids with the PSP volume cranked to the max!
