The ESRB says:
Mild Fantasy Violence: GamerDad made monsters fight each other with tackles, fire and ice breath, and other fantasy cartoony moves. But nobody dies. Monsters just faint and return to safety to battle another day. Pokemon Battle Revolution lets trainers battle their Pokemon in 3-D on the Nintendo Wii. Travel to Poketopia, an amusement park with nothing but Pokemon fights, battles, and tournaments. But to really get the most out of this game, players will need a copy of Pokemon Diamond or Pokemon Pearl for the Nintendo DS. Players can easily transfer their stash of DS Pokemon to battle on the Wii. If they don't have a DS Pokemon game, players will have to make do with a preset team of Pokemon the game provides you with. Poketopia has several kinds of battle tournaments with different rules and challenges. Winning the tournaments net players with points they can use to buy accessories for their in-game trainer persona, or buy presents to carry back over into their Pokemon DS games. Players can also take their Pokemon team to battle trainers online with 3-D battles on the Wii. Getting started online is easy to set up, and only takes a minute or two to start a match-provided you have a good wireless Internet connection. The colorful graphics and driving music really makes you want to battle cute critters, and play control is easy as pointing the remote on screen to choose commands. The only problems with Pokemon Battle Revolution is that it's missing all the other elements of what makes Pokemon fun besides the battles, since fighting is all you'll do on the Wii game. There's not much variety outside of the turn-based fights. And to get the most out of the game, you'll need to have a copy of one of the Pokemon DS games. But for expert Pokemon trainers and fans looking for new challenges, Pokemon Battle Revolution is a great way to show off your skills and monsters. But it still might not be worth the 50 dollar retail price. ![]()
It's a proven fact. Kids love Pokemon, so they'll probably love this game even despite its shortcomings. Violence is only minimal and cartoony. Cute and not quite so cute critters fight each other with tackles, elemental attacks like fire and ice, etc. But nobody dies, they just faint and return to safety. If your kids are OK with the other Pokemon games, toys, and TV cartoon show, they'll be OK with this Wii game, too. Reading skill is helpful as everything is text based. Battling online is also fairly safe. The only objectionable thing you might run into are players with vulgar screen names for their trainers and Pokemon. But like any online activity, parental supervision is recommended and younger players may need help setting the Wii up to online wireless anyway. While the DS Pokemon games are the best choice and are more fun, die-hard kid Pokemon fanatics will still find fun with Pokemon Battle Revolution.
