The ESRB says:
Comic Mischief: GamerDad made cartoon primates do all sorts of crazy stunts and silly antics. Donkey Kong is swinging into action again, this time on the Nintendo DS in DK: Jungle Climber. Help Donkey Kong and his pal Diddy as they climb their way to a treasure trove of bananas and stop the cantankerous crocodile King K. Rool along the way. DK: Jungle Climber is more or less a sequel to DK: King of Swing for the Game Boy Advance. But the DS game has more of a Donkey Kong Country feel, with rendered graphics and tons of collectibles in each stage. Play control is easy to learn as you mostly only use two buttons, the L and R shoulder buttons on the sides of the DS. Pressing one of the buttons makes DK grab a peg in the air with his hand. He'll then swing around and if you let go of the button, DK will jump in that direction. Hold down both buttons and DK will grab onto pegs with both hands, or alternate pressing L and R and DK will climb the suspended pegs hand over hand. DK can use his hands for more than just climbing, though. Solve puzzles and defeat tricky enemies by flipping switches and nabbing and chucking stones with the L and R buttons, too. Break a DK barrel and Diddy will follow Donkey Kong to give him a hand. DK can throw Diddy to attack long distance enemies, or use items like hammers or fan wings to open up different paths and reach new areas. Grab collectibles like banana coins, DK amulets, and special barrels to unlock new stages, cheats, and other goodies. Rounding out the package is some single cart wireless multiplayer modes. DK: Jungle Climber is a fun little game for fans of 2-D arcade action challenges. ![]()
It's true, kids still like Donkey Kong even though most of them probably don't know he originally was a three-frame animated gorilla who chucked barrels at Mario back in the early 80's. I've seen kids get all excited when they see Donkey Kong in their favorite games like Mario Party, Super Smash Bros., and Super Mario Strikers. Heck, even one of my little brother's first words was Donkey Kong! So kids will like this game. Reading skill is helpful, but not requires, as most of the tutorial text comes with picture cues on the top DS screen. Younger players might get frustrated at some of the later, more challenging levels, though, and may need help from an older gamer.
