The ESRB Says
Mild Suggestive Themes: GamerDad saw flirting in cutscenes, including a now grown up Gwen from the original Guild Wars. Use of Alcohol: There are taverns, but only adult characters are shown drinking. Violence: Every quest you take has to do with killing stuff. Guild Wars: Eye of the North takes the series in a new direction by taking it in an old direction. UnlikeProphecies, Factions and Nightfall which were standalone content for new or experienced players, Eye of the North is a direct expansion of the story and content of the original Guild Wars game. It is for experienced fans of the series only, but for those people it is a wonderful new feast of content. Getting at the new content requires you to have reached the level cap of 20, and even at that level you will constantly be challenged - there is some tough new stuff here that really requires grouping with other humans rather than depending on AI controlled party members. There are new skills, loads of new story - and also a bunch of things that are pretty obvious tie-ins with the upcoming sequel. The major problem is that the game does nothing to the level 20 cap, so completing the various quests and storylines have little inherent incentive. Also, there is little done to enhance player-vs-player, so this expansion is really only for those looking for some cool new player-vs-environment action. But if you enjoyed the original game, have had fun with the expansions, and are looking forward to the sequel, you will be extremely satisfied by what you find. And if not, this was never intended for you anyway. ![]()
Guild Wars is primarily a quest-based (or combat, depending on your approach) action-RPG where you join up with others to take on large dungeons or other quests. All of these quests center around killing things either yourself or with others. Combat is not bloody or gory, but can get very intense as some enemies are very tough and gang up on you. There are minor elements such as occasional mild language, some flirting in cutscenes and characters that frequent taverns - but none of it is played up or glorified.
