The ESRB Says:
Blood and Gore: GamerDad found it everywhere on the walls, floors, and coming out of victims. Intense Violence: That's where the blood comes from. Strong Language: F-word, S-word, all the bad words make an appearance. Strong Sexual Content: Nearly nude women in strip clubs, bare breasts and buttocks are glimpsed. Use of Drugs: Alcohol and drugs can be used in the game. The game tells you to thrust your Wii remote (or a control stick) forward, and you hear a flesh tearing noise, nauseating liquid splatter, and a moaning scream. Move it sideways, and more tearing. Down, up, left, right, and the butchering sounds continue. And this is just the tutorial. Yep, Manhunt 2 is finally here and despite the fact that Take Two and Rockstar didn't have the courage to send it to us, we've got a review. It's not pretty. Manhunt 2 is a bad game. Not because of the ultra-violent content and rampant over-the-top-yet-not-in-a-good-way tastelessness . . . it's just a bad game. The textures are blurry the figures are blocky, with squat frames and smooshed heads. The worst part is that the violence isn't in any way satisfying, not even in a guilty pleasure "cheap thrill" kind of way. The game is just crude and crudely made. Made for controversy instead of quality. This makes it the polar opposite of the offensive, but high-quality Grand Theft Auto series these guys are best known for. Manhunt 2 casts you as a crazy guy in an asylum filled with psychos and brutal guards. Something goes wrong and the crazies get out and an unseen voice urges you to kill anyone in your path. Stealth makes up a large part of the game but the computer controlled bad guys don't really impress and so you pick up weapons like knives, a sledgehammer, and much more, to crash, bash, and mush your foes. When sneaking up behind you can also dispatch them with "executions" which function like the tutorial above. The only stylish elements are the music and the grainy horror-movie presentation. As a horror game, Manhunt 2 functions. It is somewhat scary, but there are far better, far scarier, far more worthwhile games to play that'll still offend regular people. Games like Resident Evil IV or the old Silent Hill series for example. Manhunt 2 is just crass. Crass and lame. In the end, wasting the $30 budget price on what amounts to "Hey buddies! Check out the gore in this game!" bragging rights. ![]()
Not for kids. Not for kids. Not for kids. Not for kids. Not for kids. Not for kids. Not for adults either. Lots of violence, blood and gore, and even sexual situations and scatological humor, the game is poorly made, has few redeeming features, is crude, and worst of all, is not particularly fun or challenging. It doesn't even live up to its reputation. Manhunt 2 isn't a videogame snuff film for people into that sort of thing, it's a bad game cloaking itself in blood and murder standing in the corner and whining for attention. Ignore it. It's the only way to make it go away!
Versions Wii: Lets you use the remote to actual "perform" the murders. Swing the remote and your character swings his weapon. It's not quite as realistic as it sounds. PS2: Slightly more violence is shown during executions. PSP: Long load times and is hackable (VERY difficult) to unlock portions of the banned content. Comments? Chat about it in our forums!
