The ESRB says:
Cartoon Violence: GamerDad punched, kicked, and blasted enemies with elemental based attacks. Avatar: The Last Airbender is a popular fantasy action animated series on the Nickelodeon TV cable channel. It tells the story of Aang, a boy who lives in a world where people have the power to control the elements. Aang, along with his friends, travel the world to learn the art of elemental control while having adventures and thwarting the conniving Fire Kingdom along the way. Avatar: The Burning Earth for Game Boy Advance is a 2-D sidescrolling beat-em-up action game based on the TV series. Players control Aang and can switch between him and one of his many friends as they punch, kick, and use elemental attacks against foes. Sometimes you must also team up and use their elemental skills to solve puzzles, too. The action is viewed from a top-down perspective. Graphics are pretty basic but at least you can tell what everything is. Play control is also easy to learn and you can go through the tutorial at any time in case you forget moves. Overall, Avatar: The Burning Earth for GBA is pretty average but fans of the cartoon show should still enjoy it. Other Versions: Avatar: The Burning Earth is also available for Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 2, and Xbox 360. They're all pretty much the same game: a 3-D beat-em-up.
Even though Avatar: The Burning Earth is a game about beating enemies up, violence isn't very graphics due to the simplistic 2-D visuals. If your kids are OK with watching the TV show, they'll be OK with the game, too. Reading skill is required as everything is text based. Instead of using an in-game battery save, you must continue your game using passwords, which is difficult with a portable game system. Younger players may get frustrated at the difficulty in some places, too.
