The ESRB says:
Mild Cartoon Violence: GamerDad made Spyro the purple dragon slash, claw, and breathe fire on cartoony enemies that disappear in a puff of smoke when defeated. Usually when a video game comes out on more than one console, if there is one made for the Game Boy Advance, it's usually the worst version of the bunch. But with The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, the opposite is true, as the big console versions are mediocre borderlining on awful, whereas the GBA version is a fine piece of 2-D gaming. That little purple dragon Spyro has yet another adventure on his hands. On the night of Eternal Darkness, a great evil is about to be awakened. Can Spyro regain all his powers and save the dragon kingdom once again? In this 2-D platform adventure, Spyro will jump, wall climb, glide with his wings, slash enemies with his claws, and breathe fire as well other elemental breath attacks. Fighting enemies big and small is fun and engaging thanks to the elaborate combo system. The more hit combos you perform on bad guys, the more blue gems you receive. Use the blue gems to upgrade your elemental breath attacks and other moves so you can perform even higher combos. Find hidden dragon relics to learn even more attacks and increase Spyro's energy bar. The 2-D graphics are absolutely amazing. With fluid animation and even lighting effects, you'll swear you're playing a 2-D game on the Nintendo DS or better, instead of the sever-year-old GBA. Fans of Spyro and 2-D action games in general will want to check out The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, but only on GBA. ![]() Other Versions: The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night is also available on Sony Playstation 2, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS. The PS2 and Wii versions are the same game, a tired 3-D adventure. The DS game is still 3-D, but scaled back a little for the handheld.
Kids who like Spyro the dragon will enjoy The Eternal Night on GBA. Violence isn't very graphic, due to the 2-D nature of the visuals and enemies only disappear when defeated. Reading skill is required as everything is written in text windows. Some younger gamers might get frustrated at some of the tougher enemies and complicated controls, though. Luckily you can select your challenge level at the start of the game to be easier or harder.
