The ESRB Says
Blood: GamerDad saw some blood spatter as he dispatched enemies. Language: Some use of words like 'Hell' and 'Damn'. Violence: Plenty of fierce battles throughout. If it was released earlier in the year, Blacksite: Area 51 might have been worth some time for shooter fans hungry for something to play. But in this extremely crowded fall release season, there are so many excellent shooters available that this isn't worth a second look. It isn't the worst but it is far from the best, and despite great looks and a promising setup it is an utterly generic shooter that fails to impress on any level. The setup is nice - you and your squad in Iraq uncover mutated human and monster remains during the invasion, and then the game fast forwards to the present and you are fighting against these same monstrosities in Nevada. You play as Aeran Pierce, a squad leader who takes the same group through the entire game. Unfortunately the squad tactics are not very 'smart', leaving you to choose between micromanaging and 'playing Rambo'. The entire game - despite looking truly excellent - feels dated in terms of gameplay and shooter mechanics. It is an experience that is like cotton candy - looks like a gorgeous and massive treat, but is really just mostly air and empty calories. ![]()
This is another great example of a T-rated shooter. There is only moderate language, no real blood, no sexual situations or adult themes, just heavy and intense action. This falls in line with games like the Medal of Honor or older Call of Duty in terms of appropriateness for kids.
