Cartoon Violence: GamerDad got to blast Stormtroopers and others into little LEGO blocks.

The first two LEGO Star Wars games (covering prequels and original trilogy) were excellent games that brought the beloved series to life in brick form on a variety of platforms. Every version was very well done - except for the DS version of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, which was awful. Now we get a combined version encompassing all six episodes for all of the 'next gen' consoles as well as a completely redone DS version - and they are all wonderful and if you haven't played yet, this IS the game you're looking for!

Gameplay is essentially the same as the original games, using a third-person view of your party as you travel through familiar locations. You work your way through the stories, looking for canisters, LEGO studs and power bricks along the way. The controls are simple and direct, and work extremely well - the developers appear to have tweaked things based on feedback from earlier releases. Replayability is central to the game as there is simply no way to earn everything by playing story mode regardless of how thoroughly you search. Some areas require Bounty Hunters or Dark Force users such as Darth Vader, while there are other rewards for getting a certain amount of LEGO studs in 'free play' mode. Thisis truly the 'ultimate edition' - it is everything from the first two games in one place, tweaked and tuned to perfection. If you have a DS, you owe it to yourself to grab this - it is absolutely fantastic throughout in terms of playability and control. If you already have the other two games, don't worry that you are missing much - there is nothing new beyond the total collection in one place.

Even the tragic Jedi Temple and 'Luke I am your father' scenes were transformed into something sympathetic or humorous with some entertaining elements. Despite the fact that you spend the entire game battling enemies of all sorts, the game is never intense or violent - everything just breaks into little LEGO pieces. This is one to share with your kids and have them share together - the best part of the game is the fun of sharing the experience.
