EA Playground
by GamerDad
January 06, 2008

EA takes a trip to the playground in this decent multiplayer/family diversion. I got dibs on tetherball after Mr. Dynamite is done with it.

Reviewed for Wii.

Also available for DS.

Nintendo's Wii and DS systems are rife with minigame compilations and this is welcome for anyone with kids because these simpler games are more accessible, more casual, and therefore better suited for kids, friends, or family. EA's latest minigame pack is based on the fun and nostalgia of school playgrounds and offers a strong lineup of simple games for your enjoyment.

The Wii version uses the remote (the DS version; the stylus) for control and the single player portion challenges players to navigate a virtual playground, trying to master familiar and fun childhood games. Three of the best are locked and must be unlocked in single player before you can play them (tetherball, wallball, and a few more, but the rest are available from the outset and there isn't a bad one in the bunch.

Familiar games like dodgeball, paper airplanes, slot cars, and a new one called kick (it's like a vertical game of soccer shootout) are available from the beginning and all are solid and fun. My kids complained that they had to use the EA kid characters when they'd rather use their Mii's. but this isn't a Nintendo game, it's from EA, so that limit is understandable. If you're looking for solid minigames for kids and families, look no further than EA's solid new Playground.
