The ESRB Says
Blood and Gore: GamerDad saw blood spatter as his units dispatched enemy units. Language: Nothing too strong, and only occasional. Mild Suggestive Themes: Some flirting in cutscenes of a suggestive nature. Violence: The core of the game - wipe out the enemy. Employing the strategy embodied by "tighten the screw until it snaps, then back off a half-turn", Sierra follows on two nice entries that left little room for expansion with a complete mess ... but at least it has a good tutorial. In fact, the tutorial is like a bad tease - it sets things up nicely and gets you ready to go, regardless of your skill level. It is nicely laid out, so when you enter the main game you are prepared for a solid game. Unfortunately all you get is a complete mess. The gameplay is like a mish-mash of old and new - borrowing the steep system requirements with limited controls and scope of early real-time strategy games. The graphics and audio feel like a mediocre budget game, but unfortunately this is a full priced package. There is multiplayer, but unless you can arrange a match against someone else who you coerced into buying the game you might be out of luck finding an online match. That makes the single player the only draw, and as such it couldn't pull a dead guppy out of the water. It might sound like I am being overly critical due to the many great RTS games released this year, but this game would stand out in any year as something to avoid. ![]()
Empire Earth 3 is fairly typical for a real-time strategy game - there are cutscenes featuring plenty of characters using mild language, bloody battles, and the occasional suggestive moment between characters. Oh, and violence. Because everything is about amassing resources to build more bases and units in order to wipe out the enemy before they amass enough resources to build more bases and units to destroy you. The game is appropriately rated T and gets a 14+ GamerDad Age Seal - it is nowhere near deserving an M rating, just a solid T game with content appropriate for teens and older.
