The ESRB says:
Mild Violence: GamerDad shot pixilated spaceships and bugs. Simulated Gambling: Some of the Atari 2600 games you can unlock include card games and slots. In the beginnings of video games' 30 some odd year history, the name Atari has been synonymous with video games. And now you can play a selection of some of Atari's best known arcades titles right on your PSP with Atari Classics Evolved. Play more than a dozen titles such as Pong, Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, and more. You can relive each title in their original arcade glory, or play new 'Evolved' forms. Each updated game features new graphics that take advantage of the PSP's crisp, clear screen, but still retain the classic gameplay of the originals. To read more about the evolved forms of these games, click here. You can even play some games like Warlords and Battlezone online using the PSP's WiFi capabilities. Each game comes with 'awards' you can win by completing certain tasks like getting a high score or performing some other tricky feat. Win all awards and you can unlock the ultimate goodie: 50 Atari 2600 games. Unfortunately, getting all those awards is ridiculously hard. The play control in some of the games, like Tempest, isn't as good because you have to flip the PSP on its side and the button layout is all messed up because of that. But Atari Classics Evolved is still a pretty decent collection if you can find it cheap. ![]()
While the nostalgic value of Atari Classics Evolved will be lost on today's kids, they may still enjoy playing the handful of easy to understand titles. They might get frustrated at the quarter-munching arcade difficulty and the less-than-flashy gameplay and graphics, though. Violence is next to nothing as the bugs and spacecraft you shoot look more like geometric shapes than anything. Reading skill is helpful to wade through the menus and rules, but most of the games are easy to figure out simply just by playing.
