Hegzis (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
Hegzis is a puzzle game played on a hexagonal grid, with connected hex pieces for you to place and rotate on the field. When a full line of hexagon pieces go from one side to another, they’ll disappear. Do this enough times to clear the level. It’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
In each level, you must clear out lines until the meter is full, and then you can move onto the next. Move the pieces with the L stick and switch out to the other piece you can play with the R stick. Rotate the pieces with the triangle button and place them with the X button. If you make a full line of pieces from one end to another, that row will disappear, giving you room to place new pieces. It’ll also fill a meter on the side of the screen. When it’s full you can move onto the next level. By pressing the R1 button, you can use a limited power-up to help you clear out hex blocks. If you can’t place any more blocks, you’ll have to start the level over again.
My only problems with the game are that I would’ve mapped out the buttons differently. Like rotating the pieces with the shoulder buttons. They also don’t explain the game very well to you unless you do the tutorial. And they don’t warn you or give you a chance to use a power-up when you run out of moves. But otherwise this is a decent simple little puzzler.
Kid Factor:
Hegzis is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Mild Fantasy Violence. Really? Where? I didn’t notice any violence. Reading skill is helpful for the text, but not necessary once you know how to play.
