CORE.SYS (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S)
Follow patterns and avoid red squares on a 5×5 grid in CORE.SYS, an action puzzle game with a hacker motif. It’s available on all current consoles but reviewed on PS4 here.
You move a light blue square up, down, left, and right. You must follow an adjacent darker blue square, and do this enough times to pass a level. Sometimes you must avoid moving pattens of red squares. You can pass through them if you are quick enough, although it’s best to avoid them entirely if you can. If you occupy a red square for too long, you must start over at the last checkpoint. You can play Adventure Mode with levels to beat, or try to get as high of a score as possible in a given time in Arcade Mode.
This game feels like it belongs as a mini-game to a much bigger game. Or something you play on a calculator or other Game & Watch style LCD screen. Plus there are no instructions on how to play and if you miss you must start over at a checkpoint which feels way too far away sometimes. The game is just way too simple and repetitive for its own good.
Kid Factor:
Nothing violent or objectionable here. CORE.SYS is rated E for Everyone.
