Avenue Escape (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, X/S, PC)
Avenue Escape is a puzzle game about directing traffic. Yeah they’ll make a game out of anything these days. Clear out all the white vans by noting which directions they’ll turn and try to keep them from crashing into each other, running over pedestrians, or running red lights. It’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.
On each screen you’ll see a bunch of white vans on suburb roads. Each van will have an arrow on the roof telling you how they’ll drive. Either straight ahead, turning left and right, or a U turn. Move a cursor and click on a van to make it go. You’ll have to have good timing, too, so you don’t hit pedestrians or run red lights. If you do that or hit another car, you’ll lose a heart. Lose all three and you must start the level over again. Beat the level by clearing out all the vans. It’s an all right game, but it’s very short and not that challenging. I was able to beat all 50 levels in less than an hour.
Kid Factor:
Avenue Escape is rated E-10 with an ESRB descriptor of Fantasy Violence. You can hit other cars or pedestrians, but don’t worry, you don’t see anyone getting hurt. If you hit them, your van just disappears and the street walker or car just remains unscathed. They must’ve taken their vitamins! Reading skill is helpful, but not necessary just to play. It might be a good way for young kids to learn the difference between left and right directions.
