Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection – The Neopian Arcade Odyssey (Switch, PS5, X/S, PC)

Wait, are Neopets even still around?  It’s been nearly TWO DECADES since I reviewed a Neopets game!  And now here’s another one.  It’s a mini-game collection featuring arcade classic styled challenges and casual PopCap style activities.  It’s available on most current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.

Story mode is the main mode here.  You’ll pick an uncovered spot on a map and play one to three mini-games.  You’ll need to pass a target score in each one to move onto the next area.  Once all the mini-games are passed, you’ll unlock Arcade Mode where you can play each one separately.  Some games are even two player.  The games range from arcade classic styles like Snake or Puzzle Bobble.  Others remind me of PopCap games like Bookworm.  There are 26 games in all, and feature characters from the Neopets virtual pet website.

While many of these games are surprisingly good, they’re never as good as the games they’re trying to imitate.  Game instructions are also not very explicit.  And it’s also annoying that you have to go though all the games in Story Mode before you can unlock to play them separately in Arcade Mode.  If you get stuck on one in Story Mode, there is no way to get around it.  But I was able to clear them all, so with a little persistence, it’s not TOO hard.

Kid Factor:

Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection is rated E for Everyone with ESRB descriptors of Comic Mischief and Mild Fantasy Violence. Some of the icons you must avoid in the game are those cartoony poop swirls, and other games have you getting hit and having dizzy stars above your head.  Reading skill is needed for the text, and younger players may need help with some of the tougher games.
