What They Play’s Games of ’08
What were the best games of 2008? Well, I got the chance to contribute to the What They Play roundup because I’m a columnist. My picks? OVERALL: Left 4 Dead FAMILY: Boom Blox. But what did the other experts over there pick? Lots of stuff. Here’s the article starting with founder John Davison and then moving on to me! Click it. Come back. Or, click inside and see all the picks and talk about ’em. I know I will!
Cary’s Best Video Games of 2008 Awards Show!
Back in Aught Nine . . .
A very happy New Year from GamerDad and Family. Henry Bub (5) wanted everyone here to know something VERY important to him. Go ahead Henry, say what you’ve got to say: “Thanks Daddy, I want to tell them that I got 1st place on Moo Moo Meadows and my dad got 2nd place!” I smiled and gave him a high five. “I beat the GamerDad! Haha!” Ooookay, lets not rub it in son. Suffice it to say Mario Kart Wii, with steering wheel attachment, is a perfect game for kids over 7. Sometimes a 5 year old can handle it, but I think it takes a special one. New Years resolutions? Well, I want 09 to be better than 08 and much better than 07. I’m looking forward to seeing what a recovered and energetic GamerDad can accomplish. I’ve accomplished so much already while being so sick in so many ways. But I’m back. Good luck to you in the New Year. Keep it at GamerDad. It’ll just get better and better. Specially for you under 15’s out there.
Looking Forward in 2009
Cary’s Christmas Invasion 2008
On Christmas Day in the Morning
The GamerKids woke us up at 6am. We’d insisted their presents would disappear if they came out earlier. I put on the coffee, Linda put on her robe and fumbled for a camera, the kids wore outrageous Christmas sweaters and were racing to the tree. The dog bounded along, excited but clueless. She got her bone filled stocking and we haven’t seen her since. So what’d the kids get? How did Linda and I (and the fat guy) make ’em smile? And please, share your Christmas haul right here!
And to all a Good Night…
I believe in Santa Claus. I celebrate a secular Christmas and enjoy its trappings. Yes, it’s materialistic but materialism is fun, drives art and entertainment and creates jobs. Yes it’s gaudy, but people are gaudy, I don’t mind gaudy so much. It’s aimed at kids and, beautifully, makes them believe in wonder and magic. And then when they mature, when they pull aside the curtain, they can feel grownup. Magic isn’t real, but there’s a magic to maintaining the illusion for the next generation. No offense, I ignore the “war on Christmas.” For me it is a secular holiday, so I guess I’m on the “anti-Christian” side of the war. But I’m not here to preach and I personally don’t take sides. Worship as you like. I just wanted to stand up for my own non-religious reason for the season. more…
