Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (3DS)
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have delighted kids since, well, when I was a kid! I was a little too old to get into them back then, but boy I sure did love the original arcade game! Now the four heroes are just as popular as ever, with a computer animated series on Nickelodeon and a new summer movie. Fans can relive the action of the recent film with a game based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, exclusively on Nintendo 3DS.
DreamWorks Press: Dragons (iPad)
DreamWorks’ popular computer animated film, How to Train Your Dragon, has spawned a recent summer movie sequel as well as an animated series on television. Now your kids can enjoy a digital storybook based on the characters and settings from the franchise. It’s available for download on iOS devices, but reviewed on iPad here.
Cary’s 2014 Summer Movie Rampage!
How to Train Your Dragon 2 (360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, 3DS)
In the land of Berk, Vikings and dragons live and work together in harmony thanks to the heroic efforts of boy Hiccup and his dragon friend Toothless. Now, instead of fighting against each other, riders compete in friendly dragon tournaments in this video game based on the new DreamWorks computer animated movie (360 version reviewed here).
Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return (3DS)
Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is a new computer animated movie where Dorothy comes back to Oz to save her friends from an evil Jester. And now you can play a 3DS game based on the film’s adventures. So what kind of game is this? It’s a match-three puzzle game. Yup, really. But for what it is, it’s actually not that bad, even if the license it’s based on is.
Star Wars Pinball: Heroes Within (360, PS4, PS3, Vita, PC)
A (not so) long, long time ago in arcades (not so) far, far away, there was pinball. While pinball isn’t as big as it once was, Zen Studios helps keep it alive with their video pinball titles for many of today’s major game consoles. Some of these tables feature popular characters from licenses like Marvel Comics. Another one of their more well-known licenses is Star Wars, and now you can download for new tables in Star Wars Pinball: Heroes Within (reviewed on Pinball FX2 for 360 here).
LEGO The Hobbit (360, Wii U, 3DS, PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox One)
Based on the movie and book, LEGO The Hobbit takes you on an adventure in Middle Earth. Play as Gandalf the Wizard as well as a host of dwarves, Hobbits, and other characters as they tromp all over Middle Earth looking for treasure and face off against the fearsome Smaug the dragon! LEGO The Hobbit is available for all current game systems, but reviewed on 360 here.
Cary’s Pre-Summer Movie Round-Up
Usually during the winter and spring months at the beginning of the year, I don’t see very many movies in theaters. The majority of the movies I see are during the summer months when all the mindless blockbusters come out. At the end of the summer, I usually write a round-up blog about the flicks I saw during those months. But this year, I actually saw enough movies during the winter and spring seasons that I can write a blog about them now! So here’s a blog about the films I saw BEFORE the summer movie blast that’ll hit us in a few weeks. Oh yeah, just a word of warning. I’m going to try and keep this blog spoiler free, but if a tiny spoiler trickles out, I’m just letting you know it might happen.
The LEGO Movie Videogame (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Vita, Wii U, 3DS, PC)
Based on the current hit (and very awesome) LEGO film comes The LEGO Movie Videogame. Following the same plot as the film, play as Emmett, Wyldstyle, and other heroes as they explore locations in the movie like Brickburg city, Wild West Flatbrush Gulch, crazy Cloud Cuckooland, and more as they try to thwart Lord Business’ evil plans. The game is available for all current game consoles, but reviewed on Xbox 360 here.
VeggieTales Appisode: 3 Builders (iPad)
Personally, I LOVE VeggieTales. It’s a fun computer animated series that combines great humor with Bible based lessons and values. And now Larry the Cucumber, Bob the Tomato, and the rest of the gang are entering into the 21st century with an interactive episode of VeggieTales for your iPad or iPhone (reviewed on iPad here).
