Many Anniversaries

I have been a published writer for 10 years. GamerDad.com is 5 years old. In October, I’ll have been married for 10 years. I’m speaking at PAX this weekend, the 3rd year in a row.  And Tuesday is the anniversary of my heart attack and quadruple bypass. My speech on Sunday will include all those anniversaries into an invitation to grant GamerDad new superpowers. We’re fishing for more community, in the most fertile waters imaginable. Oh, and Tuesday? Well, that anniversary isn’t for “celebrating.” Linda and I are planning something very quiet. Very personal. I’ll be back with a PAX report – including YouTube clips of the speech – on Wednesday 9/3. See you then!

  1. “including YouTube clips of the speech”

    Now you’re talkin’ !

  2. It will be a bittersweet anniversary and I am so proud to be a part of it all. I love you

  3. Happy Anniversary to the other guy I know that was married on October 31, 1998.

  4. I saw a 4 minute long clip of what was presumably your introduction on YouTube and it said in the video description that the speech was 2 hours long. That either means that we won’t see the entire speech on YouTube, there will be up to 13-14 videos of the speech or someone with an old director’s account is going to post it. Which one of those is going to happen?

Also, I like the lame jokes :).

  5. I just realised that the sample was from the ’07 speech.
My question may still be relevant.

  6. Yeah, I got the Tube problem tackled. This year the speech is divided up into 3-4 10 minute sections. They’re fairly distinct and cover different topics:
    1. GD/PAX history
    2. History of Media Violence
    3. How to talk to an anti-gamer
    4. Dispelling the myths (addiction, desensitization)
    5. The story of my heart attack and how PA helped me

The thing you found is there ONLY because a client needed a sample super-quick. I’m only learning video editing this week so … be patient.

(Also, last year’s thing was two speeches. Gaming with Children – Politics & GameSanity – I’m planning on posting those in full here, for download, as part of the archive)
