My Week in Games

It was a busy week.  I’m still gearing up for the ALA Conference and Trick or Treating is this Saturday – which is irksome on one hand because it’s not ON Halloween. One the other hand though, it clears Trick or Treating duties from Sunday Afternoon and during a Packer game (a Wisconsin tradition that’s broken in my neighborhood) and because Halloween is my ten year anniversary and that means that we can go do something fun. Like Chicago. And then on the THIRD scary mutant hand … it means everyone is getting sick.

Deep Space

When not coughing I’ve been playing a lot of Dead Space. Maybe too much. I still like the game a great deal, the monsters are scary, the encounters are terrifying, but the step and fetch and fix and blah blah blah that’s used to propel the game forward is getting annoying. I’ve done so much busy work and killed so many monsters – while collecting money and scrimping and saving to buy ammo (why does a mine have vending machines that only dispense weapons? Oh, sure, they’re all “mining related” but how many miners are gather ore using sawblades?) so I can find out that the only way to proceed is if …

“Eugene, the signal array is blocked by some sort of terrible clog. Get down to sewage and see if you can blast the clog free. After that I need you to pick up some mints from the store and realign all the comm arrays toward deep space.”

GROAN.

Other than that the game is really great. It shows how mechanics and controls can make up for poor plotting and raisen d’etra.

Peggle Nights

I have cleared 15 of the boards. That’s cleared every peg!

And more importantly, I hold the high score in all but a handful of levels. Peggle players must think I’m nuts but if you buy the game you can see my glory and shame for yourself. I’m the best Peggle player online and I owe it all to being deliriously sick while pushing the mouse key over and over and over again. Illness makes experts of us all.

Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy

Gonna let Maggie help me with this one. Look for the report next week.

I turned in a bunch of reviews this week. Expect those up soon and of course, Ask GamerDad is due later today. Have a great weekend!

  1. Cool! That means I can leave Dead Space until February without too much remorse. I’m going crazy with everything else out there and I’ve got enough Steppin’ Fetchit to deal with in Fable 2. 😉

  2. Wow. Quite a peggle accomplishment, Andrew!

  3. Grrrrr, I suck at peggle! 🙁
