This Week in Games: October 26 – Nov. 1

With well over 80 new games this week, there is something for evryone! One person’s ‘shovelware’ is another’s ‘favorite game ever’. There are some really big games launching this week – the delayed LittleBigPlanet, the guaranteed smash Guitar Hero World Tour and my personal choice of the week Fallout 3. This week the game the RPG world has been waiting for over a decade arrives, much different than anyone might have expected, and all of the angst and posturing of the past couple of years will finally end … or at least transition to a new phase. The PS2 is back and still going strong with 15 new games, more than twice as many as the PS3, in a sign that Sony still has a major hitmaker on their hands even two years after the release of their ‘next gen’ entry.Check out the rest of the list!

As for last week’s games, Dead Space hasn’t lived up to the pre-release 95% scores by a wide margin, but is still a fun (if very repetitive) shooter with a beautiful open world. As for the PC version of Dead Space, check back next week since it is still loading. Finally, the ‘under the radar’ release last week seems to be Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia which is one of the better entries in the franchise – and is selling $5 below the usual DS game price!

Enjoy gaming!

  1. Picked up LittleBigPlanet yesterday. Cute and fun; but, not the revolution some are hyping it to be. Will most likely wait until Tuesday to get Fallout 3; don’t really need to wait up until midnight tomorrow, since I won’t be able to play it afterward anyway.

  2. Agreed … I already paid in full – but Tuesday will be just fine 🙂

  3. The Wii lineup is less than inspiring. 🙁

  4. Wii Music was last week. :/ But, yeah, I know what you mean. Ninty seems to be coasting of late and this holiday looks bleak from a gaming perspective for the Big N. We need another game equal to Metroid Prime 3 or Super Mario Galaxy. :sigh: I know the PS3 is the new toy in the house and gets a lot of love because of it; but, even with only 2 games to play on it (Burnout Paradise and LBP), I’d rather play it than the Wii.

  5. LittleBigPlanet doesn’t come out until November 5th over here :(.

  6. Fallout and Fallout 2 are two of the best games ever. Period. Fallout is, IMHO, solely responsible for the RPG genre still being around and doing as well as it is, because 10 years ago it was in the tank. Needless to say I am very anxious about Fallout 3. I have no doubts that it will be a very good game, but will it be as good as the first two? I’ll find out tomorrow when I pick my pre-ordered Collectors Edition up from GameStop. 🙂

  7. I severely doubt that FO3 will live up to the other 2 … but I have no doubt that most review sites will be drooling and stumbling all over themselves much as they did with Oblivion, and GTA IV and Halo 3 and countless other recent console games that have subsequently been revealed as way over-hyped and over-scored.

  8. I’ll be there at midnight tonight for Fallout. But I won’t be able to actually play it until Thursday or so. 😉

  9. Fallout 3 is worth the price of admission. Yes, it IS “Oblivion with guns”; but, they’ve fixed or partially ameliorated some of the annoyances in Oblivion. I’ve just left the Vault and it looks like a fantastic game. I’m looking forward to the next 6 months (or so). 🙂

  10. I got in a few hours last night and am mulling writing up a first impressions article … because finishing this one is going to be a long-time coming …

Worth the price (whether $50 or $60) Absolutely!
