Reader Letter – Thanks Halo 3

“dear gamer dad, thank you very much, i am a 12 year old boy and your article about halo convinced my mom it’s an ok game so simply, thanks.”

He’s talking about Halo 3 folks, a game that I feel has been rated too hard by the ESRB. Halo 3 features violence, but we’re talking about aliens and alien blood here. The aliens aren’t even scary except for the Flood, which is kind of upsetting but not at all worse or scarier than the mutant vampires in Will Smith’s I AM LEGEND, a movie rated PG-13. You can see why I’m semi-popular with the teenage crowd. So, how do I feel about this letter then?

Good. Very good, in fact. I’m confident that Halo 3 isn’t harmful to a 12-year old and I trust this writer’s mother. She’s the expert on her kid and all I did was tell her the truth about Halo 3. It’s no worse than PG-13 movies. Some parents will disagree and they are welcome to. But some parents just want to make their kids happy. So long as it’s true, I have no problem easing the worries of an anxious parent. There are lots of things to worry about besides games and making your kid happy at Christmas is important too. I think this is a good kid.

At the very least, she taught him good manners about please and thank you.

You’re welcome kid, you’re welcome mom, glad I can be of help.  Enjoy the game.

Thanks for the letter,

GamerDad

  1. Hey GamerDad-
Love your blog. I’m researching Halo 3 for my two boys- 10 & 12. I research everything through & through and I just can’t decide what to do about Halo 3. My 12 year old wants to be cool like his friends and my 10 year old just does what the 12 year old does. 🙂
    Recommendations? Advice??
    Thanks.
