Henry’s Mario Party!

Henry, my boy, my lad, my buddy, my GamerKid, my son turned 6 on February 7th. Since he is now thoroughly obsessed with “Intendo” – we threw him a small Mario Party to celebrate. Present were (names changed) Timmy and Clarabel, the latter being Henry’s (gasp, swoon) “girlfriend” and the former, as it turned out, was the 3rd wheel. GamerMom made a cake with blue frosting depicting Mario’s world and we got him plush dolls of: Mario, a Goomba, a Boo, a Mushroom, a Piranha Pete, Bowser and Kirby dressed as Link (2 birds, I figured, 1 stone). Decorations were Mario themed and, of course, videogames were played. . .

The first thing we learned was that our two guests were clueless to the wonders of the MarioKart steering wheel. I deduced this when I walked in and Henry had won the race while the other two – in eleventh and twelfth place respectively – were still on lap 2. Henry protested but we switched to Mario Party Wii and they all had a ball.

Clarabel is Henry’s equal in many ways – particularly enthusiasm. She high-fived, squealed and loved that in each game she could be Princess Peach and he could be Mario (Timmy was Dry Bones in Kart and Toad in Party – lucky him).

Later on we’ll put the giant MarioKart wall sticker up above his bed. And after the sugar buzz subsides and my family has left this evening – I know that my son. My (god) six-year old son. Will sleep with visions of Pipes, Coins, Stars and (of course) mushrooms, dancing in his head. What more could a GamerDad want. I’ve been waiting 8-years for this moment (Maggie likes games but goes her own way).

Thank you “intendo”.

  1. Awesome! I had many a Pac-Man birthday cake when I was little. –Cary

  2. Happy birthday. I’m glad both the kids and the dad had fun.

  3. That is actually a clever idea for a cake, cary. I lol’d at the whole “girl friend” thing because even at 13, my little sister is still in that phase. She goes through like 5 a week, but it’s just “Hi, you’re my boyfriend now” pretty much.

  4. It was a great time and the kids had so much fun. The kids were waiting (chomping at the bit) to put the figures on the cake… It was great!

  5. Sounds like everyone had a blast! Happy Birthday GamerKid!

  6. That was a great picture of the cake.

I just re-read that again and it sunk in. Henry’s six!? They get so big, so fast.

    Happy Birthday, Henry!

  7. Thanks momgamer…. it is hard to believe that he is 6!!! I bet you feel the same about your brood! They grow up and become people, actual people. Where does the time go!

  8. 😉 Just wait until they turn 18. My girls did last week. It is a strange thing.

  9. Will you soon be an empty nester? Can you even imagine?
