GamingWithChildren: Tell us a little about yourself and what games you’ve worked on prior to Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream.
Graham Markay: My name is Graham Markay and I am the Vice President of Operations for Natsume Inc. I have been with Natsume for over twelve years now. In addition, I am the Project Manager on each title Natsume releases. Therefore I work very closely with each and every game we publish.
GWC: What about Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream sets it apart from other fishing games on the Wii?
GM: The Reel Fishing franchise has traditionally set itself apart from other fishing games as a true-to-life fishing simulation, and currently is the best selling fishing franchise. By delivering a realistic experience to players and fans, Natsume has been able to set this series apart from others on the market. Players will feel like they are really standing on the shore of beautiful lakes with the ambience of nature around them as they fish with a rod and reel by utilizing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as their fishing equipment.
GWC: Were there any unseen difficulties in the development process of Reel Fishing?
GM: There are always a few hiccups here and there during development, however we are extremely happy with the end product. Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream is different than other fishing titles offered on the Nintendo Wii.

GM: Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream is definitely going to satisfy the casual gamer or anyone who has wanted to cast their first line. It gives the player the freedom to choose how to make their fishing experience their own. There are certain requirements that must be achieved to progress through the game, however that can be determined by the player at his/her own pace. In addition, there is a Fishing Master that will help guide the player on his/her journey.
GWC: What can hardcore gamers look forward to with Reel Fishing?
GM: ;One challenging aspect for hardcore gamers is the special boss fish which are available to players after certain requirements are met. These fish are bigger, smarter and intense fighters who will give advanced players a challenge to beat! Additionally, players can appeal to their more competitive side of gaming with the Versus Mode, featuring multiplayer gameplay with 1-4 players.
GWC: How can families enjoy Reel Fishing together?
GM: We are very proud of the fact that all of Natsume’s titles are family-friendly. In particular with Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream, players can test their fishing skills against each other with Versus Mode, allowing up to four players to play together on the same screen. There are a variety of different stages that everyone can compete in, with a variety of salt and fresh water fish. Matches are customizable so that it can fit with any family’s style of gameplay.
GWC: Is there anything a young gamer can learn by playing Reel Fishing?
GM: One focus of the Reel Fishing franchise was always the fundamental message of “being one with nature.” It is not about how fast you can catch fish, but experiencing the thrill of catching fish. The fish players catch can be kept in aquariums, raised and then released back into the wild. Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream teaches to live in harmony with nature and to enjoy what is around you.
GWC: Many thanks to Graham Markay for taking the time to answer questions, and the fine folks at Clever Communications for setting this all up! Reel Fishing: Angler’s Dream comes out later this summer.
