Noah’s Ark for DS is an interactive story book about the timeless Bible story. Young children hold the DS sideways, like a book, and listen as the story is being read to them. Kids can tap on the right side of the screen and objects will react with funny animations. And there’s also a silly monkey hidden on each page! After reading, your child can listen to the story again or play a dozen or so Noah’s Ark themed learning activities.

Activities include spelling practice by tapping on letters to spell animal names, or tracing upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. Players can also color a selection of Ark animals. Make music on a hippo’s teeth like a piano, or listen to an animal orchestra’s song and try to repeat the notes. There are also a handful of arcade style touch screen mini-games based on the Noah’s Ark story.

Noah’s Ark is a charming DS title for young gamers, but for the price I think it could’ve used a little more substance to it. I think they could’ve included maybe a few more Bible stories than just this one. Plus, a good idea I came up with was to be able to switch where you could tap on the words of the story on the touch screen and they would be read to you, kind of like how Leap Frog does their interactive storybooks.

Even so, the Tap & Teach is still off to a great start, let’s hope they can continue to make more of these and they get better! As a Christian myself, it also made me happy to see a game based on the delightful Bible story. Tap & Teach: The Story of Noah’s Ark is rated E for Everyone with an ESRB descriptor of Comic Mischief.
