‘Boxer the Unboxer’ unboxes the Little Big Planet 2 Collector’s Edition!

Have you ever had an idea that you thought was a good one, but you lacked the know-how, materials, and time to pull it off? But you wanted to try and make your idea happen anyway? Well that’s what this blog is all about. You may have seen videos or blogs of people ‘unboxing’ a new console or special edition game bundle where they show you what’s inside. I thought this was a dumb idea at first, until I was awaiting my copy of the special edition of Ys Seven and wanted to know what was in it. I thought I would give unboxing a try myself someday. Except instead of putting me in the action, I thought it would be fun to have it star a puppet! Everything’s better with puppets, right? And that’s how “Boxer the Unboxer” was born! Now here’s Boxer’s debut as he unboxes the Little Big Planet 2 Collector’s Edition!

I’ve always been fascinated by puppets. I think it stems from my childhood. Ask anyone around 30 years old and they’ll agree: puppets were HUGE in our younger days. I practically grew up on Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and The Muppet Show. But it wasn’t just Jim Henson’s creations. The only TV sitcom I could ever stomach was ALF. And while Rifftrax is funny today, I much prefer them when they were Mystery Science Theater 3000 and starred those crappily made robot puppets.

My first plan was to make a video of a puppet talking about and opening a special edition game with extras, or a new console. But, I don’t have a video camera, I don’t know how to upload videos onto my computer, and I have no idea how to make a YouTube account. Granted, I’m perfectly capable of learning how to do this stuff. But here’s the thing: I don’t have enough time to do all that. I have a full-time job during the day that doesn’t revolve around reviewing video games, plus I have commitments and chores at home. So I don’t have time to do EVERYTHING I want to do. So I decided to start small and just take pictures of a puppet and write captions to post. That much I CAN do!

I was also hoping to buy a nice puppet to use for my little project. But puppets are surprisingly hard to find in stores! So I decided to make one! Actually, I commissioned my brother Jeff to make the puppet. Mainly because I bought the Collector’s Edition of LBP2 mostly for HIM, and I figured he could earn it a little bit. But also because Jeff is really good at building things, and I figured that a hand-made puppet would fit the theme of LBP2 very well, since it is all about user created content. In fact, the hand that houses Boxer’s insides in the pictures…it just might be Jeff’s! If I do any more puppet unboxings in the future, Boxer may change or evolve a bit. But for now, he’s a sock puppet. “Derpy” as he is (that’s a term Jeff made up).

Well, without further ado, I’m going to let Boxer take over this blog so he can show you what you’ll get if you buy the Little Big Planet 2 Collector’s Edition! It’s a pretty good deal at only 20 bucks more than the regular price of just the game! So, heeeeeere’s Boxer!

“Hi! I’m Boxer! Arf! And I’m a puppy! More specifically, I’m a puppet! You can call me a puppy puppet! Ha ha! And you know what else? I LOVE video games. So I can also be called a 1up-pet! Get it? Ha ha! I’m so funny! Anyway, you know that feeling you get when you open a game for the very first time? That’s my favorite part! So here’s my story of me unboxing the Little Big Planet 2 Collector’s Edition! Yay!

Here’s the box it comes it that I’m about to open! See how big it is! There’s a lot of stuff inside, so let’s dig in! Arf!

And here’s the game, the most important part of the package! Cary bought this game mostly for Jeff, because Jeff loves video games where you get to build your own stuff! He’s spent countless hours making vehicles in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, and whiled away long into the night on other user created content games like Soul Calibur 4, Minecraft, WarioWare: D.I.Y., and the original Little Big Planet. Cary’s favorite thing that Jeff built in the original LBP game was a rocket powered donut! Jeff just loves building things! In fact, he even built me!

The Collector’s Edition comes with this cute little Sackboy plush. Aww, look how happy we are together. I think me and Sackboy are going to be best buds!

And the game also comes with this really cool set of bookends! I used it to hold my most favoritest book in the world: Officer Buckle and Gloria. It’s about a really funny police dog named Gloria! You should read it. When Cary took a children’s literature class in college, this was his favorite book he had to read for that class! Hmmm…you know what? I think I need more books for my bookends!

The Collector’s Edition also comes with a bunch of neat costumes you can download and dress your Sackboy up in for the video game. There’s a Toy Story alien outfit, one from TRON, as well as Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank costumes. And there’s a Gonzo costume (see, there is a puppet connection here), and other stuff like animals and whatnot.

And that’s all what’s in the Collector’s Edition. I can’t wait to start playing it! Well, Jeff will have to play it for me, as I’m just a dog puppet! Oh well. Anyway, I’m going to turn this blog back over to Cary so he can conclude my debut. So until next time, later! Arf!” –Boxer

Thanks Boxer. Anyway, so what did you think of my crazy idea? Good, or just stupid? Am I creative or just insane? And what would you like to see Boxer the Unboxer unbox next? –Cary
