Cabela’s “Adventure Starts Here” Video Game Tour
If you like hunting and outdoor video games, you might want to check out your local Cabela’s store or Wal-Mart and see if you spot a big trailer in the parking lot all decked out to show off Activision’s new Cabela’s hunting game titles. I went to the Cabela’s in Allen, TX this Sunday and got a good look at the hunting games from Activision out now or during the holidays.
Anyway, here are a few pics of the outside of the trailer. It’s so big I couldn’t fit it all into one shot. The truck is all decorated, too.
The inside of the trailer where you played the games had some pretty neat E3 booth-caliber decorations, too. Here’s a shot of the airplane they had part of in there to show off their new hunting survival game: Cabela’s Survival: Shadows of Katmai. Part of the wing was sticking out of the outside of the trailer, too!
And here’s a shot near the front where they were showing off Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2012.
The tour is a little more than halfway over, so if you want to see if the trailer is coming to your town, I recommend checking out the official web site, and they also have a Facebook page.
Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2012
This one is already out for Wii, PS3, and 360. It comes with a pretty cool gun accessory and from what I previewed; the game has a lot of interesting new features. The story mode has you in a hunting competition with a whole world to explore. When hunting the big game, you can aim for vital organs for a more humane kill, which I liked, plus it was easy to tell the bucks from the does, so you know not to shoot the females. In between the big game hunts, keep your eyes open for smaller game that you can shoot quickly for bonus points. You can easily switch from shotgun to rifle when you need to hit ground or airborne targets. When aiming, you can even have your character hold his breath for a more steady shot. Sidequests include taking photos of rare animals, like an albino deer. There are also some fun two player arcade modes as well. I’ll have a full review of this game in a few days, so make sure to check back then!
Cabela’s Survival: Shadows of Katmai
This one will be out in November for Wii, PS3, and 360, and is more of an adventure survival game. Your character in the game is flying a doctor to Alaska, but you don’t know why at first. But on the way you crash your plane and you and the doctor are stranded. What’s worse, the doctor lost her backpack, which has a cure for a mysterious virus. It’s up to your to find the doctor and her backpack and get them to safety. But most importantly, you must survive!
The game utilizes the same gun controller that Big Game Hunter 2012 uses, but here you’ll do more than just shoot. Sometimes you’ll fly a plane, climb mountains, and fend off wild animals with whatever you can find. You’ll even defeat bosses based on creatures from Native American lore. There are also two player arcade shooting gallery modes, but since this is a survival game, not only must you get a high score; you must also outlast your predators. Fans of hunting games, the Resident Evil and Tomb Raider series, and even TV shows like Man vs. Wild may want to check out this one.
Those were the games shown on the tour, but I got a sneak peek at another Cabela’s game out during November. It’s called Cabela’s Adventure Camp, and is an arcade style outdoor shooting game for PS Move and Xbox Kinect. It even includes an enhanced version of the Top Shot gun accessory.
And that’s all. Don’t forget to check their web site and Facebook page for the rest of the tour stops, and check back here at GamingWithChildren.com for full reviews of those games later! –Cary
