Kirby Amiibo!

AMIIBO_LOGOI’ve got another batch of amiibo figures to show off, and these are based on the Kirby series!  I like Kirby games even better than Mario ones, so I was pretty excited for these.  Let’s check them out!

Here they are in the boxes.  Also included is a special Isabelle amiibo from Animal Crossing, as well as a pack of Kirby trading cards that was a pre-order bonus at GameStop.  We’ll take a closer look at those as well.

PACKAGES

In Animal Crossing, the seasons change according to the 3DS internal clock, and your assistant in the game, Isabelle, changes her clothes depending on if it’s Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer.  Well, the Isabelle amiibo that has already been released is her Winter outfit.  So they released another amiibo with her Summer outfit.  Yeah it’s a little ridiculous, but I got it anyway.  Here are the two figures side by side.

ISABELLE

Now for Kirby!  The four Kirby figures include Kirby riding on his star, Waddle Dee sitting on some clouds, Meta-Knight, and King Dedede.  Waddle Dee’s the only new character, as the other three have different amiibo for Smash Bros.  But it’s nice to see that they gave them different poses here.  Meta-Knight looks especially cool, as his mask and shoes are very shiny and metallic, even more so than the Smash amiibo of him.  I only have a slight problem with King Dedede.  His new figure is great, don’t get me wrong.  But his Smash amiibo was more detailed.  The white fringe on his robe was sparkly and the edges of his hammer were metallic.  I thought about taking pictures of the old and new amiibo side by side for comparison, but I got a little lazy.

When you scan a Kirby series amiibo into the new Kirby: Planet Robobot game, Kirby will get a new ability and costume.  With the new Kirby amiibo, you’ll get UFO Kirby, which is the only way to get that ability.  Waddle Dee gives you the Parasol, Meta-Knight gives you the sword, and Dedede the hammer.  Kirby will also change color like he’s cosplaying as those characters, but the abilities are the same.  What’s cool is that you can scan any other amiibo and get an ability as well.  If you scan a non-Nintendo character, like Mega Man, Sonic, Shovel Knight, or Pac-Man, you’ll get a random ability.  But Nintendo characters will give you specific abilities.  Some are pretty easy to guess, like Mario give you Fire and any Link and Fire Emblem character gives you the sword.  But some are a little more interesting.  Wario gives you the Wheel, and Wii Fit Trainer turns you into Doctor Kirby.  I find it interesting that any Animal Crossing amiibo gives you the Leaf ability, but Toad also gives you Leaf, which I don’t quite understand.  You can only scan five amiibo a day, though.

Also included with this picture are the Kirby trading cards I got as a pre-order bonus at GameStop.  They have pictures of the robot Kirby rides and some of the modes it has, along with a brief description.  A few of the cards are even shiny!  I got the standard Robobot Armor, Beam Mode, Sword Mode, Jet Mode, Cutter Mode, and Wheel Mode.  I don’t know if the package of cards is the same or if they have random cards in each pack, but if you’re reading this and you got the pre-order bonus, too, let me know if your cards are different or the same.

I hate to say it, but when I got my copy of Kirby: Planet Robobot, I had to ask the GameStop employee if it had a pre-order bonus.  They had them, and he was going to let me leave without the extra bonus.  So if you work at GameStop and are reading this, please try to be as knowledgeable of your products and specials as you can, so customers don’t suspect you of not telling them so you can keep the bonuses.  I know it’s really hard to keep up with EVERYTHING, trust me, but please try your best!

OK, sorry for rambling.  Here’s the picture.

KIRBY

And that’s all for now!  I think the next batch of amiibo figures are new Splatoon ones!  When I get those, I’ll show you them as well!  Later!  –Cary
