Flying Slime (iOS)

SLIME_BOXPlay as a slime creature as you fling sticky tentacles around and swing about a cavernous forest landscape.  Make it to the end and grab a shiny thing to complete the level.  It’s available to download for about three bucks on the App store (reviewed on iPad here).

The game uses touch screen controls.  On the right side of the screen are two buttons.  Press them to make your slime creature fling a tentacle to the left or right of him.  This strand will mostly be flung up, though, and can attach to nearly any surface.  You can even attach it to objects off screen, so never be afraid to launch those tentacles around.  When you latch onto something, you’ll swing around it like a vine, and you can let go by releasing your finger from the touch screen.  On the left side of the screen are buttons with up and down arrows.  When you are attached to something, use these to retract or lower your tentacle so you can go up and down.  And that’s all there is to it.

In each level, your goal is to reach a shiny object thing.  You get a higher ranking if you can make it in as quickly as possible.  You lose if you hit any dangerous objects, like thorny branches or chomping plants.  You can view a video of whoever has the best time on a level, and if you complete enough stages, you can unlock other modes.  And that’s it.  I can’t really think of any reason why to play this game, as it’s very similar to other mobile games of this ilk, unless you just really enjoy swinging and grappling games like Bionic Commando.

Kid Factor:

The only violence is if you hit a dangerous object, your slime will explode into itty bitty pieces.  But that’s it.  Reading skill isn’t needed to play, but younger gamers may get frustrated at the high difficulty that happens pretty early on.  But at least there are no in-game purchases or ads.
