New 3DS StreetPass Games: Feed Mii

This new StreetPass mini-game is all about cooking, but it has kind of a creative premise.  You are a chef in a restaurant in an RPG, and heroes come in and eat your food to get energy to go off on their quests.  It kind of reminded me of another 3DS game I reviewed a few years ago called Weapon Shop de Omasse, where you were a blacksmith in an RPG weapon shop and made weapons for heroes.

In the game, each of your StreetPass friend tags act as a hero, and each of them will bring an ingredient for you to use.   I think the ingredients are dependent on the color of the Mii character’s clothes, but I’m not sure.  Anyway, the ingredients are things like meat, fish, mushrooms, tomatoes, flour, etc.  You’ll have to combine certain ingredients in a dish to feed the heroes before they go off on their quest.  If you can get the recipe right, you’ll get more stars, and if you’re lucky and put in extra ingredients that make it taste even better, you’ll get a higher rating.  And if you put more than one of the same ingredient, you can even make jumbo portions.  The better the food you prepare, the more energy your heroes will have before going off on their quest.  At the end of the day, you’ll get a newspaper showing the progress of your heroes, like how far they got or what monster they defeated.  You can store up to five extra ingredients in your fridge, and any leftovers you can experiment with to try and unlock more recipes.  And that’s it.  I think that this game and the slot car one are my favorite of the new StreetPass games, and even then they’re not THAT good.

The other problems I have are common in all the new StreetPass games.  I don’t know if they’ll hold my attention as long as some of the other ones did.  I unlocked everything in Find Mii and its sequel.  I played through the flower game and grew all the breeds (but I did stop when they challenged me to grow all the colors in all the breeds).  And I’m still enjoying the fishing game.  But I don’t think these new titles have staying power.  Also, I think they released these a little too late as well, because now that the Nintendo Switch is on its way and can be a portable game system, too, it makes me wonder how long of a life the 3DS has left?  Better enjoy it while I can, I guess.

Kid Factor:

The StreetPass games are rated E to E-10.  The only violence in this game is just implied in the newspaper, if it tells that your heroes defeated a monster or whatever, but reading skill is needed for the text.

  1. I like the premise of taking on the non-hero roles in RPGs, and I wish more fully-fleshed out games would do that. I wonder what the bomb shop guy from Zelda’s home life is like and I wouldn’t mind a Sims/Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon type game based on that.

But in this case, I just think Cooking Mama could throw this StreetPass game in as a mini-game and it might be better. Having said that, I never played Cooking Mama.
