Quiplash (Switch, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC, Mobile)

Jackbox makes a lot of titles where you use your cellphone to play party games on consoles and mobile devices, and now one of their more popular creations is on the Switch (reviewed here).  Just connect to jackbox.tv on your phone, enter the room code on the TV screen, and you’re in!

In Quiplash, you must have three or more people to play.  In each round you are prompted to answer a series of questions by typing your responses on your phone.  Make sure they’re funny and clever because when the answers are revealed on screen, the other players will vote on their favorite.  Whoever gets a vote will earn points, and whoever has the most points at the end of a few rounds, wins.  It’s kind of like how you would play Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity.

The rules are easy to figure out and it was a lot of fun.  Only problem I had was that probably because more people are at home now and maybe playing Jackbox games more, their servers were running slower and I had to hit refresh on my phone many times for the current screen to pop up.  It just made it a little harder since you have a time limit to type in lies.  Speaking of people staying at home more because of COVID, my brother Jeff, who helped me play this game, told me of a great idea to play this game while social distancing.  You can stream this game via streaming devices, and then others can view it online in real time and play it via their phones!  It’s a neat idea to play and stay connected, and Quiplash is a great party title overall.

Kid Factor:

Quiplash is rated T for Teen with an ESRB descriptor of Sexual Themes.  While it’s all in text only, one of the topics we had to do while playing was “Come up with a name for a porno film from the 1920’s.”  It would be nice if Jackbox would include a kid-friendly mode or made family versions of their games.  But until they do something like that, this one is best for older players.
