Splashy Cube (Switch, Mobile)

Splashy Cube is a minimalistic action game where you maneuver a cube through an ever collapsing obstacle course filled maze as you try to make it to the goal.  I’m not sure what’s so splashy about it, but the game is available on Switch and mobile devices, but reviewed on Switch here.

You view the action in a 3-D isometric perspective.  You press the L and R buttons to rotate and move your cube one space up left or right.  You can’t back up, you must always move forward.  But you wouldn’t want to go backwards anyway because the level is always collapsing behind you, so you have to hurry!  Maneuver your cube around obstacles like blocks, pits, spikes, and moving sawblades.  If you hit a dangerous object or fall off, you must start the level over again.  But luckily the levels aren’t too long if you do have to start again.

Try to roll over dots that are the same color as your cube.  If you do, you’ll get bonus points, and if you roll over a bunch at a time, you’ll get combo bonuses, too!  Just avoid dots that aren’t the same color as your cube, if you touch one, you must start the level over.  By reaching certain objectives, you can unlock new skins for your cube, including a house, block of cheese, or square shaped kitty cat!  Really the only minor problem I had with this one is that sometimes it can be hard to plan your path and you might get stuck, but you can always try again and the levels are randomly generated.  Some may say this game is TOO simplistic, and it certainly feels like it would fare better on mobile devices.  But it’s still a fun little time waster.

Kid Factor:

Nothing violent or objectionable here.  If your cube gets hit by a spike or other obstacle, it’ll just fly off the screen.  Reading skill is helpful for some of the menus, but not necessary just to play.  Splashy Cube is rated E for Everyone.
