Chaser Tracer (Mobile)

Aliens have created an artificial sun to destroy the Earth, and the only way to stop them is to decode their symbols by tracing over them before they do!  OK, dopey story out of the way, this is just a game where you quickly trace over different symbols before the computer can.  It has a nice 80’s neon theme at least.  Chaser Tracer is available on mobile devices, but reviewed on iPad here.

Before you start, you’ll choose one of three difficulty levels, although I didn’t notice much difference between them.  You’ll then see different lines you must trace over with your finger on the touch screen.  If you wait to long, you’ll see them being traced over in pink, as if an invisible finger is doing it.  If the pink line covers the symbol before you can trace over the whole thing, you’ll lose a life.  Lose all three and it’s Game Over.  If you can trace enough of these lines and symbols, you can move onto the next level.  Sometimes you can earn power-ups that let you slow down time and whatnot when activated.

While I liked the 80’s neon motif, me being an 80’s kid and all, this is nothing more than those countless ‘trace the pattern’ games you might’ve played on the Nintendo DS or whatever.  And it gets nigh impossible past stage five or so, so I didn’t stay interested for long.  There are in-game purchases that give you perks like being able to continue where you left off.  But it seems a bit high for this kind of game at five bucks a pop.

Kid Factor:

Nothing violent or objectionable here.  Reading skill is helpful for some of the text, but not necessary just to play.  Parental supervision is recommended for the in-game purchases, though.
